Christmas & Advent Drawing Near to Jesus 2019
Advent is the “arrival” of Jesus Christ when he was born on the original Christmas Day and the upcoming “arrival” of Jesus Christ when he will return to judge the living and the dead. Advent is a season of preparation and waiting for the return of Jesus the Messiah to make all things new (Revelation 21); to redeem all creation. We wait for Christ’s second coming to judge the living and the dead (2 Pet 3:11-14; 1 John 3:2-3) and we celebrate Christ’s first arrival at Christmas knowing he has forgiven our sins.
The 12 days of Christmas start with Christmas Day and end with Epiphany, which commemorates the “adoration” of the Christ Child by the Three Wise Men as they present their gifts. In this way, they were “revealing” Jesus to the world as Lord and King
