8 a.m. Service Returns Advent 1

We are planning to add the earlier service in the Church beginning Nov. 29.
As we draw closer we will confirm the service date and time.

Operation Christmas Child

As the world wrestles with a global pandemic, children need hope now more than ever. Gift-filled Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes can help show them God's love and spread the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

You can either get a box from Walton Hall or Guerry Hall, use your own shoebox or go online to pack a box. Please read the instructions on what to pack as there are changes this year. Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift. You can also include a personal note and photo. Every shoebox needs a $9 donation to provide for collecting, processing, shipping, and other project costs. If you make this donation online and receive a special label, you can follow your box to its destination country.

Please bring your boxes to Walton Hall / Guerry Hall the weekends of Nov. 7 or 14. Here are links for more information:

Uganda Scholarships

Each year St.John's Church provides scholarships for children of Ugandan clergy to attend Grades 3-12. Clergy earn about $12 to $14 a month and the cost of sending a child to school is $150 a year. So far we have raised three quarters of the amount needed for 50 scholarships. If you are led to send in a check or give online, please mark your gift for Uganda Scholarship.

For Persecuted Churches

We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of November we pray for the nation of Uzbekistan.

Heavenly Father, Christians and Christian churches in Uzbekistan are suffering due to religious nationalism, authoritarian government rule, Islamic persecution, and violence. We lift them up in your Holy Name, asking for your mercy to surround them. We pray for the Christian churches in Uzbekistan to persevere through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

Prayers for Healing

May we who are merely inconvenienced
Remember those whose lives are at stake.

May we who have no risk factors
Remember those most vulnerable.

May we who have the luxury of working from home
Remember those who must choose between
preserving their health or making their rent.

May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close
Remember those who have no options.
May we who have to cancel our trips
Remember those who have no safe place to go.

May we who are losing our margin money
in the tumult of the economic market
Remember those who have no margin at all.

May we who settle in for a quarantine at home
Remember those who have no home.

As fear grips our country,
let us choose love.

During this time when we cannot
physically wrap our arms around each other,
Let us yet find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.

For Times of Social Distress or Conflict

Increase, O God, the spirit of neighborliness among us,
that in peril we may uphold one another,
in suffering tend to one another,
and in homelessness, loneliness, or exile befriend one another.
Grant us brave and enduring hearts
that we may strengthen one another,
until the disciplines and testing of these days are ended,
and you again give peace in our time;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
