Promises of God Part 11

“I Will Be Your King”

November 22-28, 2020
1 Samuel 8:1-9 / Psalm 47 / Revelation 19:11-16 / John 19:1-16
  1. Read 1 Samuel 8:1-9.  Why do the people of God want a king?  Why does God relent?  Who does God say the people are truly rejecting?  What or where in your life have you de-throned God?  Do you see the need to put Him back on the throne?  Discuss together and then pray for wisdom and strength to put God back on the throne of your life.

  2. Read John 18:3-37 and 19:11-16.  What does God the King (Christ the King) look like here?  How is this image different than most earthly kings you know about?  What is significant about Christ the King for you in these passages?

  3. Read Revelation 19:11-16.  How is this depiction of Christ the King different from that in John’s Gospel?  What is significant about the symbolism in this image of Christ the King?  Why are the two images – those from John’s Gospel and this one from Revelation – so different?  What does this tell you about how Christ is perceived by believers and non-believers?

  4. Many love to claim Christ as their Savior, but fewer claim Him as their Lord?  Read Luke 6:46-49.  Not everybody wants a king over their life.  Discuss your hesitation about following a king.  What is the consequence of not following Jesus as King and Lord?  What areas of your life need to come under the lordship of Jesus Christ?  What areas are you truly ready to hand over to Him?  Pray together for transformation of your heart to be a true servant of Christ under his lordship.
