Volunteer at Camp St. Christopher

St. Christopher is in dire need of help in the food service area. The Charleston area as a whole is suffering from a lack of personnel to work in the hospitality industry and while Camp St. Christopher hopes to hire additional staff the current staff is pitching in, and we are blessed by a few others who offer volunteer assistance. As of now Camp St. Christopher needs 2 to 3 more volunteer people at any one time to assist with the meals. St. Christopher welcomes volunteers that only want to volunteer once or are willing to make a regular commitment over several weeks for a particular meal on a particular day. The most urgent need for help is with the evening meal, to alleviate the extended and additional days currently being required of the regular staff.

Volunteer positions involve arriving 15 minutes before a meal is served, assisting with serving the meal (which is all done behind a screen in the kitchen) and then remaining to clear tables and reset for the next meal. Resetting often involves sweeping and mopping, particularly with youth groups on the large side dining room. For the evening meal, you will be needed from 5:45 p.m. until at least 7 p.m. possibly 8 p.m. depending upon the size of the group. You will be offered dinner in the midst of their service, typically after all are served, and prior to cleaning up.

If you feel a calling to service at St. Christopher, please contact The Rev. Robert Lawrence. Young mature folks with parents or grandparents are welcome as a team as well as individuals. Camp St. Christopher will be blessed to have you as a volunteer.

Sea Islands Hunger Awareness

Sea Islands Hunger Awareness Foundation (SIHAF) supports many programs on Johns and Wadmalaw Islands. For those that independently support this program there is no Gullah Celebration fundraising event this year, instead you may give directly to the foundation. The foundation's brochure tells how the coordinated efforts of SIHAF, and its Programs and Partners fight island hunger with healthy food and clean water one meal at a time.

Online Giving

Did you know giving online to St. John's just got easier. Instead of creating a giving account online you can simply process a pledge/gift as a Guest. You will be asked for your name and email address and payment information, that's it. You can access online giving from the website or the mobile app or click the 'Red Button' below; why not give it (no pun intended) a try.

Do we have your correct email address?

Often, we will send out an email blast on a specific topic from the Church's contact database. It has become apparent that many of our parishioners do not have up-to-date email addresses in our system. Click on this link to send an email to Sally Dixon in the office with all of your families correct email addresses.

PRAYERS

Easter Sunday Altar Flowers

Flowers were given to the glory of God and in loving memory of
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Roper Jenkins Sr. & Carol Jenkins Hardman by Jane Herlong.

St. John's Altar Flower Ministry designs new flower creations each week for Sunday services. Flowers are selected individually and prepared on Friday. The cost to dedicate flowers is $70 for two vases or $40 for one. Contact Sally Dixon (sdixon@stjohnsparish.net, 843-709-4894) to sign up for the Sunday of your choice.

Collect

Sunday, May 9.
O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

For Persecuted Churches

We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of May we pray for the nation of Libya. Heavenly Father, Christians and Christian churches in Libya are suffering due to radical Islamic persecution, human trafficking, and extreme violence. We pray for the Christian churches in Libya, despite the lack of freedom to worship, to remain steadfast in the face of martyrdom. Enliven their spirits by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
