La Ascension Church of Peru visits St. John's

Play video below
St. John's Parish Church had a wonderful visit last week from Padre Jerry and Deacon Edith Acosta from the Anglican Diocese of Peru. They visited with missions groups, Bible studies, and both of our Sunday worship services.

"Common Pot" Kitchens of Peru

If among you, one of your brothers should become poor, in any of your towns within your land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother, but you shall open your hand to him and lend him sufficient for his need, whatever it may be. Deuteronomy 15:7-8

During their visit Deacon Edith Acosta talked to us about the "Common Pot" kitchens that have been set up by the Anglican Diocese of Peru in locations all over the country, including 10 in Lima. Common Pot is a make-shift kitchen that feeds between 70-100 people every day at each location, at the cost of about $1 per meal. Common Pot is the only meal many will eat daily. It is estimated that nearly 30% of the population of Lima - some 3 million people - are without work and income due to the Covid pandemic impact on the city as well as political uncertainty and governmental economic collapse.

St. John's has provided financial assistance in the establishment and operation of the Common Pot kitchens. Recently, we sent $1800 of (t-shirt) fundraising money to Peru to help fund the Common Pot kitchens.

This is just a glimpse into the work God is doing through our partners in Peru. St. John's Parish Church has been generous in giving, loving, and praying for Peru. Please continue to give to Global Missions for Peruvian support. Please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering greatly.

In Christ,
Fr. Jeremy+

Blessing Basket Needs Support

The Blessing Basket Program picks up 7 "sets" of food (such as a pack of 300 bags of rice) every month from local grocery stores. They have had one person who has been doing all the pick-ups but that person is tired. They have asked St John's if there are a few people who could take one run each. An example: KJ's provides 300 cans of green beans. Someone (you) gets a call from the program that the cans are ready. You run over to KJ's at your convenience,- mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends - pick up the cans and deliver them to the Blessing Basket site at the corner of Bohicket and Edenvale Rd. Done. One run per month.

If you think you could do this ministry that would be fantastic. All together, the Sea Island Hunger Foundation programs provide thousands of meals each month. This is an easy way to be one critical piece in a huge story. If you are interested please contact Walt Miller for more information. THANKS!!

Edisto River Property Retreat

Exciting News!! St. John's recently received a very generous donation from a member of our parish in the form of a retreat on the Edisto River near Cottageville, SC. We hope this property will provide a place for small groups, Bible studies, and families looking for a quiet getaway which is less than an hour from Johns Island. In the meantime, we want to build a team who can help with some yard work and light repairs on the property. Please let Sam Gervais know if you are interested in finding out more and helping the church use this exciting gift for the glory of God.

Collect

June 27
O God, your never-failing providence sets in order all things both in heaven and on earth: Put away from us all hurtful things, and give us those things that are profitable for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

For Persecuted Churches

We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of June we pray for the nation of Kenya. Heavenly Father, Christians and Christian churches in Kenya are suffering due to radical Islamic persecution, tribalism, corruption, organized crime, and violence. We pray for all Christians in Kenya to endure the pressures of all these persecutions. We pray for the Christian leaders to persevere through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
