The 14th Annual Feeding the Multitude

The Feeding of the Multitude is planned and put on by volunteers from 23-30 churches on Johns and Wadmalaw Islands. We traditionally serve a sit-down meal, during which we visit with our guests, and offer on-site prayer teams, entertainment and non-profit booths. However, because of COVID, we had to make changes last year and had a drive through, pick-up of bags of food and frozen turkeys. Unfortunately, the Pandemic is still with us, so the Feeding will again follow this format:
  1. Drive through pick-up of bags of groceries to feed a Thanksgiving meal to a family of 4 and a 14-16 lb. frozen turkey.
  2. Homebound cooked meals provided for true home-bound people who have no transportation or ability to cook their own meals.
  3. Prayer Teams via Facebook live stream or private telephone call in line. We will also have our prayer chain.
  4. Feeding our Multitude of Pets. We continue to offer free pet food and spaying/neutering education, thanks to our partners, Pet Helpers and Charleston Animal Society.
The trade off with the new format is that while we don't have the same degree of wonderful interaction with the volunteers and guests, we are able to provide food to more people. Our goal is to again feed 5000 (1200 bags of food and 1000 turkeys plus 200 plated meals to home-bound). We hope to get back to the old format when we are rid of COVID.
What can you do to help?
  1. Pray for a successful, Spirit-led Feeding, so that many people are fed both spiritually and physically. Pray for another beautiful rain-free day.
  2. Commit to donating a bag of food or being a Neighborhood Captain (getting your neighbors, co-workers, small groups, etc) to donate bags. See the attached Neighborhood Captain Letter that provides more information.
  3. Let Meemee Williams (843) 559-3877 cricketwill@yahoo.com) or Michael and Ame Holcombe (864) 238-7785 ameholcombe@gmail.com) know the number of bags that you will promise to have in November.
Feel free to contact Meemee, Michael/Amy or Claudia Boyce (843-860-88110 claudiapboyce@gmail.com) if you have questions.

PRAYERS

Altar Flowers

Flowers were given to the glory of God and in memory of our mom,
Marilyn Olson, by her girls, Sue, Sally, and Sheri.

St. John's Altar Flower Ministry designs new flower creations each week for Sunday services. Flowers are selected individually and prepared on Friday. The cost to dedicate flowers is $70 for two vases or $40 for one. Contact Sally Dixon (sdixon@stjohnsparish.net, 843-709-4894) to sign up for the Sunday of your choice.

At St. John's

Collect

September 26
O merciful Lord, grant to your faithful people pardon and peace, that we may be cleansed from all our sins and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

For Persecuted Churches

We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of September we pray for the nation of Cameroon. Heavenly Father, Christians and Christian churches in Cameroon are suffering due to violent persecution from extremist group Boko Haram, and governmental instability. Please provide security, provision, and peace, through the power and presence of your Holy Spirit. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
