Operation Christmas Child

We have an incredible opportunity to share the hope of Jesus Christ this Christmas with children all over the world and it begins with prayer and a shoebox of goodies! Once again, St. John's Parish will be participating in Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse. Children, even in remote countries, will not only receive a shoebox but will be given the opportunity to learn from Christians in their country about Jesus Christ. St. John's has ordered 200 cardboard boxes and will be sharing them with all of you in hopes that you will want to be involved. This year, in addition to your being involved, we want you to involve your neighbors! Why don't you pick up a box or two for yourself AND a couple of extras and see if friends in your neighborhood want to be involved. This is such a great activity for families and a wonderful way to show how St. John's cares for people though our international outreach.

Cardboard shoeboxes will be available starting this Sunday, the 10th at the three worship services and inside Walton Hall and Guerry Hall until we run out! Inside each shoebox, you will find information with suggestions about what to pack in your shoebox and what not to pack, a trackable label for your box and information on the $9 cost of shipping each shoebox.

Below are many wonderful links that further explain how to pack your shoebox.

Collection weekend at St. John's will be November 13 and 14. Saturday the 13th, we will receive shoeboxes outside of Walton Hall (building located behind the church and cemetery) from 9am to noon and on Sunday the 14th following our worship services at 8am, 9am and 10:30am. If you need to bring your shoebox earlier, you are certainly welcome to drop it off on the Operation Christmas Child table in Walton Hall each Sunday after worship or to the church office (building located next to the church) Monday to Wednesday from 9am to 4 pm and Sundays after the 10:30am service. Questions, contact Libby Puckette. Thank you in advance for helping share the Gospel and blessing children all over the world this Christmas season!

Blessing of the Animals

Join Fr. Jeremy+ & Fr. Greg+ as they bless our pets and animals at the Estuary Beans & Barley Saturday Oct. 9 from 4-6 p.m.

Blood Drive - Can you Donate?

There is still an extreme shortage of blood donations at the moment. The Staffordshire neighborhood (where the Sheltons live), is hosting another blood drive through The Blood Connection. Your help is much appreciated. The Blood Connection will have their mobile unit parked at the corner of Staffwood Road and Thorpe Constantine Ave on Thursday, October 14th from 4-7:30 pm.

You can make an appointment here: The Blood Connection - Donor Portal.

Annual Feeding the Multitude Update

Our goal is to again feed 5000 (1200 bags of food and 1000 turkeys plus 200 plated meals to home-bound).

What can you do to help?
  1. Pray for a successful, Spirit-led Feeding, so that many people are fed both spiritually and physically. Pray for another beautiful rain-free day.
  2. Commit to donating a bag of food or being a Neighborhood Captain (getting your neighbors, co-workers, small groups, etc) to donate bags. See the attached Neighborhood Captain Letter that provides more information.
  3. Let Meemee Williams (843) 513-8886 or Michael and Ame Holcombe (864) 238-7785 know the number of bags that you will promise to have in November.
We prayerfully request that our able neighbors contribute the following:
  • 2 lb. bag of rice
  • 1 x 14-18 oz. can/jar or 2 packets of turkey gravy
  • 2 x 14-16 oz. cans of green beans
  • 2 x 14-16 oz. can of yams or sweet potatoes
  • 1 box of stove top stuffing
  • 1 x 14-16 oz. can of cranberry sauce or dressing
  • 1 box of (just-add-water) biscuit mix
  • 1 bag/box of pre-packaged, store-bought cookies (not bakery, which have short dating)

When you purchase your groceries, please ask the cashier to double bag them in sturdy paper bags (with handles if possible). It's a good idea to shop early, but please ensure expiration dates are after 12/21. The approximate cost of these ingredients is $25. Please let me know if you can donate a bag, of groceries, so that we can plan properly. Then, leave your grocery donation on your front porch by 9 AM Sat., November 13th, for pick-up by your Neighborhood Captain or bring to St. John's Parish Church.

Feel free to contact Meemee, Michael/Amy or Claudia Boyce (843)860-8811 if you have questions.

At St. John's

Oct 10
O God, our refuge and strength, true source of all godliness: Graciously hear the devout prayers of your Church, and grant that those things which we ask faithfully, we may obtain effectually; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

For Persecuted Churches

We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of October we pray for the nation of Afghanistan. Heavenly Father, we pray for the protection of Afghani Christians. We ask you for safety, provision, and peace. We lift up those who have been martyred. We pray for the softening of hearts of the Taliban - give them visions and dreams of Jesus. Lord, may your strength be poured out amongst all those who are suffering in Afghanistan. We pray for the revelation of Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, to be manifest in Afghanistan.
