Community Connections Pastor Position

St. John’s Parish Church (SJPC), Johns Island, SC seeks to fill the position of Community Connections Pastor.  This highly motivated person will guide the parishioners of SJPC to a fuller understanding of what it means to be witnesses in “Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).  This position is a full-time, salaried position with benefits.  Johns Island, SC is one of the most rapidly growing and diverse areas of the lowcountry.
Proposed Duties and Responsibilities (based upon the skill-set and gifts of the applicant):


  1. To model a heartbeat for reaching the community of the Sea Islands and beyond with the Gospel
  2. To make connections (through personal contact and routine maintenance of these relationships) with businesses and other organizations on Johns and Wadmalaw Islands
  3. To create opportunities for the parishioners of St. John’s Parish Church (SJPC) to reach outside the walls of the church with the Gospel and through Gospel-centered service opportunities
  4. To make connections with other churches, especially African-American and Hispanic churches and groups, to seek goodwill, cooperation, and reconciliation in our community
  5. To be the liaison with mission groups that may use our facilities, especially First Broad St. UMC
  6. Keep the issue of reaching the un-churched before the staff and parish and in every program of SJPC
  7. To equip staff and parishioners of SJPC in how to share the Gospel effectively in this rapidly changing and complex culture
  8. To participate with the Global Missions committee to promote SJPC’s involvement in worldwide outreach


  1. To recruit, develop and lead the Newcomers team and to help create a positive experience for visitors and guests. This will include but not be limited to the appearance of the church, Ushers, Greeters, and Welcome Team development, coffee team, and the atmosphere at worship services
  2. To respond to every first time visitor who signs in within 24-48 hours
  3. To assimilate new guests into the small group ministry
  4. To run and coordinate the small-group ministry of SJPC, and insure that every member is involved
  5. To train small group leaders in concert with the Rector’s vision for SJPC
  6. To ensure that the clergy are aware of pastoral concerns raised in small groups and give parishioners the tools to care for those in their group

Media & Marketing

  1. To develop and implement an effective marketing plan that promotes SJPC’s vision and to encourage SJPC to take greater steps of faith and expand our reach into the community
  2. To create and monitor alignment of ministries and message in all of our publications and promotional pieces both internally and to the community
  3. To create ways to increase the level of awareness of SJPC within the community
  4. To create video and other media, in conjunction with the Social Media coordinator, to demonstrate and increase the faith of parishioners and goodwill in the community

Other Skills and Qualifications

  1. Must be a mature and growing follower of Jesus Christ
  2. Team Player: must be willing to “chip in” where needed for the success of parish ministries and events, as well as follow the ecclesiastical order and discipline of the Anglican Church in North America
  3. Excellent relational and interpersonal communication skills
  4. Passionate and high energy leader
  5. Effective verbal and written communication skills
  6. Expected to be active (including their family, if applicable) in weekly worship services and attend other parish events and special services
