Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes
due back this Sunday, the 14th!

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU who took a shoebox (or more) to fill for Operation Christmas Child! We passed out over 150 boxes this year! That number was up from about 40 last year! They are due back this Sunday, November 14th. Please bring them either to Guerry Hall or Walton Hall. They will be delivered to a collection site the week of the 14th.

Please remember to:

Place the provided trackable label on the top of the box checking the appropriate sex and age group

Either mail in your $9 shipping donation per box or go online and pay using a credit card. Either way, you are able to track your box and find out the country in which it was delivered.

Place a Christmas card or note and a picture of your family inside each box. This touch will mean so much to the children!

DO NOT SEAL your box with tape….staff at the Samaritan's Purse warehouse have to check each box. We will have rubber bands available to go around the boxes.

We will receive shoeboxes this Saturday from 9am to noon at Walton Hall if you want to drop off then. Otherwise, bring them to church this Sunday when you come to worship.

And most importantly, please pray that the hearts of the children receiving these boxes will be opened to the incredible love Jesus has for them not just at Christmas but all year long. Pray that the family of each child comes to hear about the saving grace of Jesus Christ as well.

God bless each one of you!

Feeding of the Multitude
ONE week from this Saturday

We are pleased to announce that we have 25 churches working together to put on the 14th Annual Feeding of the Multitude on Saturday, Nov. 20 from 12 Noon to 1 PM on Walton Hall Grounds. We have lifted up the Feeding to the Holy Spirit and trust that He will once again, make it all come together. Our goal is that our guests will be fed spiritually as well as physically. We have many families struggling to make ends meet, and we want to help them and share the love of Jesus Christ. Please continue to pray for another wonderful event and a pretty day.

Prayer is a major component of the Feeding.
  • Be sure to check in to the St. John's Facebook page that day and send in any prayer requests. We will have ministers and laypeople leading 30 minute prayer sessions from 12 Noon to 3 PM. There is also a phone line for private call in prayer. If you would like to volunteer to be a prayer warrior, contact Meemee Williams 843-513-8886 or Ame Holcombe 864-505-8267
  • Also, please email any prayer requests to Ame or Meemee to be included on our prayer chain that we will drape around the cross during the Feeding. This will contain prayers from all church members, representing our united belief and trust in Jesus Christ. The prayers are transcribed into a document and prayed during the Feeding.
Grocery Bags and Turkeys:

We are still welcoming bags and donations. We are significantly behind our goal of 1200 bags, matching last year's number. If you have committed for bags and have more, please give your updated numbers to Meemee or Ame. That is a tremendous help for our planning.

We prayerfully request bags filled with the following groceries:
  • 2 lb. bag of rice
  • 1 x 14-18 oz. can/jar or 2 packets of turkey gravy
  • 2 x 14-16 oz. cans of green beans

  • 1 box of stove top stuffing
  • 1 x 14-16 oz. can of cranberry sauce or dressing
  • 1 box of (just-add-water or milk) biscuit mix. (Not buttermilk). Check in the pancake/syrup aisle. If you can't find, just omit this item or include rolls with expiration date after 11/25.
  • 1 bag/box of pre-packaged, store-bought cookies (not bakery, which have short dating)
When you purchase your groceries, please ask the cashier to double bag them in sturdy paper bags (with handles if possible). please ensure expiration dates are after 11/25/21. The approximate cost of these ingredients is $25. Any Questions or updates, contact Meemee or Ame.

Prayer Shawl Blessing

It was with joy that the Prayer Shawl Ministry was privileged to be a part of the All Saints Sunday celebration as our guest preacher, Rev. Dr. Rob Sturdy, blessed our most recently completed shawls and baby blankets.

We thought this would be a good time to acquaint, or reacquaint, church members with their role in this effort. A group of knitters and crocheters individually craft shawls, praying as they begin each one and throughout the process of, stitch by stitch, completing them. We also create baby blankets which are given to celebrate little ones who join the Body of Christ. When they are finished, each shawl gets a label describing it as for the healing and comfort of the recipient. Each blanket's label celebrates blessing and joy.. After it is blessed, a shawl or can be given to anyone the giver thinks might find it a comfort or a joy.

There are two stages to our endeavor - production and distribution. Should you be interested in the production phase, please contact Susan Neville or Polly Sosnowski (Hint: interest is the only requirement). However, you are automatically enrolled in the distribution effort.

Here's how it works:
  1. Prayerfully identify someone you know who could use a shawl or blanket
  2. Come to Guerry Hall and select the one you think most appropriate for your recipient. Shawls and blankets are stored in bins in the copier room. Please make sure you pick from the bins marked "Blessed"
  3. Record the date, your name, and the recipient's name in the red log book with the bins. Each item is numbered, so you can find the appropriate line for signing it out. Staff members and/or Office Angels will be happy to help guide you.
With our thanks,
Polly Sosnowski

Reading Partners

Volunteer reading partners help equip students with the lifelong literacy skills that empower their learning. More than simply reading with a child, volunteers follow a proven, structured curriculum (in both online and in-person spaces) to help students learn specific skills necessary to become proficient readers. Lessons come with step-by-step instructions and a trained support person is always available to help.

Four of our schools have let us know that they would love to have volunteers back in the buildings. The four schools are:
  • Angel Oak Elementary, 6134 Chisolm Rd, Johns Island, SC 29455
  • AC Corcoran Elementary, 8585 Vistavia Rd, North Charleston, SC 29406
  • Frierson Elementary, 6133 Maybank Hwy, Wadmalaw Island, SC 29487
  • Goodwin Elementary, 5501 Dorchester Rd, North Charleston, SC 29418

All in person tutors will be required to wear a mask and observe the school safety protocols.

At St. John's

November 14
Stir up, O Lord, the wills of your faithful people, that bringing forth in abundance the fruit of good works, they may be abundantly rewarded when our Savior Jesus Christ comes to restore all things; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

For Persecuted Churches

We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of November we pray for the nation of Haiti. Heavenly Father, in the midst of natural disaster, corruption, greed, poverty, and anarchy, we pray for your heavenly grace to provide and sustain for all Christians: missionaries, clergy, and laity in Haiti. Soften the hearts of the vicious street gangs, give them visions and dreams of Jesus. Through your provision grant the safe return of the 17 kidnapped missionaries. Restore, reunite, and rescue Your holy church in Haiti.
