Christmas Cards

We will have a "mailbox" in the narthex of Walton Hall and the church for Parishioner Christmas cards. Place your cards in the alphabetical slots and don't forget to check the mailboxes each time you are at church for Christmas greetings from your fellow parishioners.

Christmas Pageant.

Rehearsal this Sunday, Dec. 19, immediately following the 9 am service

No Christmas is complete without the children of St. John's leading us through salvation history to the manger in Bethlehem on Christmas Eve at 5 pm. With that in mind, we are taking signups for the pageant now for children aged 2 and up! Please contact Rob Schluter (rob@stjohnsparish.net) to sign your child up for a part in the pageant.

Vestry Nomination 2022 Due Jan. 2

We are inviting nominations for the Vestry. Are you prayerfully considering if you are called to serve on the vestry? Do you know someone to nominate? If you would like to nominate another, please ask that person for permission first. Nomination forms are at the entrance to the church, Walton Hall, and Guerry Hall. Please turn in the forms to the church office by January 2, 2022. If anyone has questions, to please see Father Greg.

Tornado Devastation - Anglican Relief and Development Fund® (ARDF)

Over the weekend, deadly tornadoes killed an estimated 100 people and destroyed a thousand properties, leaving tens of thousands without power. Western Kentucky was especially hard hit.

ARDF has trusted partners willing and able to respond to the crisis. You can support them by donating to their Joseph Fund. This fund exists to get funds out quickly to churches and affiliated non profits to support the efforts of volunteers responding to the crisis.

If you would like to support this cause you can either donate through St. John's Parish Church and write Anglican Relief Fund or ARDF on your gift or go direct to the Anglican Relief Donation Page here.

Uganda Scholarships

For Ugandan children, the school year begins in early January, so St John's is beginning to collect scholarship funds for the coming year. Tuition is $150 for the YEAR! Please consider sponsoring a student-or two-in this critical work. Secular and Islamic pressure to lure children away from the faith is alive and well in Gulu so your help is increasingly important to the families we have been helping.
Hopefully we can have our usual March Mission Madness celebration in 2022 but it is helpful to the Diocese of Northern Uganda to have these scholarships in hand soon. Thank you for your amazing support of these families for the past 10 years!! Some of the children we have been supporting are now moving into advanced degrees thanks to our support! How exciting is THAT?!

Women's Peace Retreat with Mary Tutterow

January 7-8

"You can have peace regardless of your circumstances." This retreat is for any woman who would like to rest, relax and renew learning practices that can keep her in perfect peace. Peace retreats are small and very popular. Spaces fill quickly. Come alone or bring a friend but register now! Learn more.

PRAYERS

Altar Flowers

Flowers were given to the glory of God

St. John's Altar Flower Ministry designs new flower creations each week for Sunday services. Flowers are selected individually and prepared on Friday. The cost to dedicate flowers is $70 for two vases or $40 for one. Contact Sally Dixon (sdixon@stjohnsparish.net, 843-709-4894) to sign up for the Sunday of your choice.

At St. John's

Collect

December 19
Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and as we are sorely hindered by our sins from running the race that is set before us, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever.

For Persecuted Churches

We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of December, we pray for the nation of Yemen. Heavenly Father, in the midst of radical Islamic persecution, violent tribalism, food shortages and starvation, we ask for your grace to provide and nurture all people in Yemen. We pray for Christians, who are forced to worship in secret, to be sustained by the presence of the Holy Spirit.
