Christmas Services

Sleeping Bags for the Homeless

Can you help our homeless brothers and sisters by donating a fresh sleeping bag? We have learned that there are Charleston area homeless people who need sleeping bags to help them endure the cold winter days and nights. We have committed to provide 10 new or gently used, clean sleeping bags. So far, we have 4. What a perfect Christmas present for our brothers and sisters who are going through very hard times!

In Mt. 25, Jesus teaches, "I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me."

Mt: 25:40 Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.

If you can help, please contact Claudia Boyce 843-860-8811 claudiapboyce@gmail.com.

Epiphany Service and Burning of the Greens

Join us on Saturday, January 8 at 5 pm for the Epiphany Service in Walton Hall, followed by the Burning of the Greens and Oyster Roast; we will also have hot dogs. Bring your Christmas trees and other holiday greenery after Christmas to the designated spot in the middle of the field.

Tornado Devastation

Anglican Relief and Development Fund® (ARDF)

Over the weekend, deadly tornadoes killed an estimated 100 people and destroyed a thousand properties, leaving tens of thousands without power. Western Kentucky was especially hard hit.
ARDF has trusted partners willing and able to respond to the crisis. You can support them by donating to their Joseph Fund. This fund exists to get funds out quickly to churches and affiliated nonprofits to support the efforts of volunteers responding to the crisis.

If you would like to support this cause, you can either donate through St. John's Parish Church and write Anglican Relief Fund or ARDF on your gift or go to the Anglican Relief Donation Page https://ardf.org/joseph-fund

Uganda Scholarships

For Ugandan children, the school year begins in early January, so St John's is beginning to collect scholarship funds for the coming year. Tuition is $150 for the YEAR! Please consider sponsoring a student or two in this critical work. Secular and Islamic pressure to lure children away from the faith is alive and well in Gulu so your help is increasingly important to the families we have been helping.

Hopefully we will have our usual March Mission Madness celebration in 2022 but it is helpful to the Diocese of Northern Uganda to have these scholarships in hand soon. Thank you for your amazing support of these families for the past 10 years!! Some of the children we have been supporting are now moving into advanced degrees thanks to our support! How exciting is THAT?!

Any amount is helpful if you are unable to fund a full scholarship. Please list on the designation line of your check: Uganda scholarship.

January 2
O God, who wonderfully created, and yet more wonderfully restored, the dignity of human nature: Grant that we may share the divine life of him who humbled himself to share our humanity, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

For Persecuted Churches

photo opendoorsuk.org
We pray for persecuted churches around the world. For the month of January, we pray for the nation of Turkmenistan. Heavenly Father, we pray for Christians in Turkmenistan to endure through governmental oppression and heavy restrictions which limit worship. We lift up all Christians, especially church leaders, that they be strengthened and encouraged by Your presence. We pray for new believers who come from Muslim backgrounds to worship in the full-ness of Your mercy and grace. Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.
