Donating blood is important to our families, friends, and community here on Johns Island and beyond. Approximately one in seven people entering a hospital need blood. One pint of blood can save up to three lives.
While there is an ongoing need for blood donations, there are certain times of the year when the supply tends to be in critical need, and this is when St. Johns Parish Church steps in.
We try to hold a drive in the summer and another in the winter.
The Red Cross also has a program for high school students called Leaders Save Lives. Our own Griff Jackson has taken this on and is part of the Blood Drive Team. This program not only helps promote donations, it also teaches leadership skills.
You can get involved in several ways: donate blood, recruit donors, volunteer to bring snacks to the drive and spread the word far and wide.
Thank you for saving lives!
